Who We Are!
We are hourly members of USW Local 6166 that work at Vale Inco, Guarda Security, Aeroguard, Omni Cleaners and Calm Air.
What We Do!
We know that women face different issues in the workplace than men. Our goal is to bring these issues into the open and tackle any problems that may arise (i.e. proper fitting PPE, violence, harassment, family issues, and isolation.) We are also trying to make our presence known in the community with some upcoming events.
Some of the things we are currently working on are:
-getting women's cut work clothes available
-providing a safe environment for women to discuss their issues without fear of humiliation or discrimination
-how family issues can affect you at work
-how to get more women involved in the Union
Events in the near future:
-Women of Steel Course November 23-25 2009 to be held in Thompson at the Steelworker's Office
-Toy Drive to assist our Brothers and Sisters currently involved in the labor dispute in Sudbury, Port Colbourne, and Voisey Bay
-Luncheon on December 6th to mark the 20th anniversary of the 14 young women murdered in Montreal
-Free Trade versus Fair Trade awareness day
How to get involved!
We meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 5:30 pm (supper provided).
