  Ron Brown

 

 Ron Brown was elected Trustee of USW, Local 6166 on April  9th 2009.

 Ron started his career at Inco in September 1979, as a Plating Tankman, in the Refinery.  In May of 1980, he transferred to Maintenance as a 2nd year Industrial Mechanic.  Ron has worked at Pipe Lake, T-1 Underground, Central Shops, Refinery and the Smelter.  Ron was on the Construction Crew in 1983 and then bid to the Refinery Maintenance Crew.  In 1993, he transferred to the new Construction Crew and moved back to the Refinery when the crew was phased out.
 
 Ron successfully completed an Occupational Health & Safety Course through the University of Manitoba, which was jointly sponsored by Inco Ltd. and the United Steelworkers of America, Local 6166.
 
 Ron became Co-Chair of the Refinery's Safety, Health & Environment Committee until becoming a part time Worker Safety Representative during the 1996 negotiations.  He became a full time Worker Safety Representative in Central Maintenance, Transportation, Utilities, Surface & Miscellaneous and Warehouse.
 
 Ron was the WSR Co-Chair of Central Maintenance, Utilities and Shops for 4 years.  Presently, he is the WSR Co-Chair of the Health, Safety & Environment Committee for the Mill and Warehouse.
 
 Ron was first elected to the Executive Committee in 1985 to the position of Guard.  From there, he went on to hold the Trustee and Treasurer positions, respectively.
 
  Ron held the position of USW Local 6166 Financial Secretary and had successfully held that position for 6 years until elected trustee this past election.
