Ted Sentner
Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Ted was 8 years old when his father got a job in Sudbury, Ontario, working for Inco Limited. Ted received his education at Pine Crest Elementary School in the Valley and Federation High school, just outside of Sudbury.
In 1976, at the tender age of 18, Ted Sentner was hired at the Froud Mine for Inco Ltd, Sudbury. During the next few years, Ted was laid off a couple of times and had earned only 3.4 years of service in 6 years.
In 1982, once again, Ted was up for lay off and offered employment with the Manitoba Division. This was the 2 nd time Ted was offered employment in Thompson and in April of 1982, he moved here.
In 1984, Ted got involved as a Union activist, after seeing the way some of the supervisors were treating their men. Ted became active with USW 6166 as a Union Steward, a Safety and Health Alternate Co-chair, a member of the Mines Incentive Committee and a member of the Grievance Committee. Additionally, Ted was a member of the 2002 Bargaining Committee.
In his, almost, 32 years with Inco Ltd., Ted worked in the Smelter in Sudbury and during his term of employment with the Manitoba Division he has been: A Cable Bolter, V.B.M Driller, Scooptram Operator and Development Miner. Currently, Ted is a Mine Car Fitter on the 2400 Level at T-1 Mine.
Thompson has been good to Ted and has enabled him and his beautiful wife, Sheila, to raise their three wonderful children.
