Torrance moved with his family to Thompson in 1989 from Trinidad, where he was born in 1956. Torrance has been employed with Vale since 1989.

 

Torrance worked in the Refinery Mechanical Maintenance Workgroup from 1989 until 1995 when he went to work in the T-1 Mobile Maintenance Workgroup. In 2002 he transferred to T-1 Shaft Services Mechanical Maintenance Workgroup.

 

Torrance has been serving the Safety Health and Environment Committee since 1997 and in May 2010 accepted the Worker Safety Representative position for the Mill and Warehouse.

 

The Union felt that there needed to be a change in 2012 and Torrance was then appointed the WSR in the smelter Feb 1st 2012 While Gord Medwid was appointed to the Mill/Warehouse for the same reasons.

 

Torrance pledges to be dedicated to his duties, working together to achieve a safe workplace for all workers.
