United Steelworkers Local 6166 ratify a new Three Year Agreement with Vale Inco.

United Steelworkers Local 6166 have reached a new three year agreement with Vale Inco. The three year agreement which will expire mid September 2011, has included gains in Wages, Pensions, and Benefits, as well as Contracting out language, Overtime Language, Health and Safety language, and a host of other items. One of the key issues, nickel price bonus, remained intact which was a concern for all party's involved.

The Collective Agreement was accepted by the membership on September 15th by a final vote of 65% in favour of the proposal. There were 1287 eligable voters in which 1061 voted and 226 did not vote.

Voting took place over three days after the membership was presented with the tentative agreement on September 12th which was unanimously recommended by the Steelworkers Negotiating Committee.

More information regarding the new collective agreement will be posted on this site in the near future.
