Gord Martin, Ed Crossley receive

Honorary titles from USW

Gord Martin has been named Honorary King Miner and Ed Crossley has been  named Honorary Driller by the United Steelworkers local 6166 as part of the National King Miner Contest.  Long-time  miners and partners, Gord and Ed were  officially recognized at Wednesday's  Nickel Day's President's Reception.  Gord started with Vale (then International  Nickel Company of Canada) at T-3. He  started digging ditches, but within three  months moved into Mine Development. In 1974, he moved to T-1 where he spent  many years on the 2400 level, working  with partners Charlie Mayo and Peter Apetagon. Gord retired in 2006 and takes  great pride in looking after his  grandchildren.  Ed joined Vale (then International Nickel  Company of Canada) in 1976 at T-1. He  started as a Labourer, but very quickly  moved into development mining. He spent a considerable part of his career as a Pillar Miner. In 2001, he moved to the 400 level  at T-1 where he partnered up with  Honorary King Miner Gord Martin. Ed  retired in 2006 and today shares his  retirement time with a part-time work.
