Mill/Warehouse Worker Safety Representative
  Gord Medwid

Gord Medwid was appointed to the role of Worker safety Representative of the smelter in June of 2006. Prior to his safety and health commitments he was, and since 1992, continues to be a union steward . Gord has represented many workers and helped resolve many issues and concerns on their behalf in that time.  Gord was also on the USW negotiating committee for two (3yr) collective agreements in 2008 and 2011.  Gord is also an executive member of local 6166. Gord has been employed with Vale since October of 1987.

During his time as a union steward he gained a lot of knowledge of the collective agreement and had learned that safety and health was a huge part of that agreement.   After years of representing his coworkers on the conflict resolution aspect for the union, he also stepped forward to become a health and safety representative in 2004.

The Union felt that there needed to be a change in 2012 and Gord was then appointed the WSR in the Mill/Warehouse Feb 1st 2012, While Torrance Sukhbir from the Mill/Warehouse was appointed to the Smelter for the same reasons.

Gord has always strived to improve work conditions and relationships amongst everyone he has contact with and will continue with the effort of making the workplace as safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly as possible. His goal is also to ensure that the workers have solid union representation and is proud to be a representative for them.
