Commemorates the 20th Anniversary December 6th Vigil of the
Polytechnique Montreal Massacre

Article By: USW Womens Committee

Date: December 6th 2009

Who can forget that fateful day in Montreal, December 6th, 1989;

 Marc Lepine armed with a semi-automatic rifle and a hunting knife, shot 28 people, killing 14 women and injuring an additional 10 women and 4 men before turning the gun onto himself.

On December 6th 2009, The Thompson Crisis Center and The USW local 6166 Womens Committee held a Vigil at the USW Steelworkers Building to commemorate the Montreal massacre . The vigil included a potluck dinner with several speakers and prayers. There was also the lighting of candles which is in remembrance of each woman who died and to signify the removal of darkness that many families have experienced throughout Manitoba this year with the loss of a loved one through a violent act. There was also a video "After the Montreal Massacre" shown.
